Fear Of Flying
This is something that I’ve seen more and more in my practice in the last couple of years, that more and more people are developing a phobia of flying.
Now first and foremost, you are not alone. Most people have a phobia of some sort, and also, most people have at one time been good flyers, but then something happened that changed that. They’ve either experienced a bit of turbulence in mid-flight, or watched some negative flying documentary on the TV. But in that moment, the subconscious has decided that flying is extremely dangerous, in-fact, life threatening. So therefore in response to any subsequent thoughts of going on a flight, your subconscious will throw up all these horrible feelings; heart palpitations, anxiousness, can’t breathe. It is doing this to get you to not fly, to get you to get away from this perceived life threatening situation. Believe it or not, you subconscious is on your side, as it is trying to keep you safe. However, the response of your subconscious is out of proportion to the actual threat. I can’t remember the last time that I read about a plane coming down in the United Kingdom or even in Europe, and even when there has been some sort of issue, there have been no fatalities. I’ve always said that if planes were regularly coming down in this country, I wouldn’t get on one myself. But that is not the case.
But the real issue for you is that your nervous/panic subconscious reaction to flying is out of your control. This is where Hypnotherapy comes in. As part of the therapy is to communicate and work with your subconscious, to get it to change its response to the prospect of you flying. This is achieved through educating your subconscious so that it understands that flying is not as dangerous as it thinks and that by stopping you flying it is having a negative impact on your life and others around you. We will also look at identifying and clearing any emotions and negativity, from past events that have contributed to you being scared of flying.
Not Being In Control
For other people it is not the flying itself that is the problem, but the fact they are not in control of the aircraft. Well, I will always say, I think I would rather have the pilot in control of the aircraft than me, because he’s far better qualified to fly than I am! But for some that lack of being control can make them very nervous flyers. Hypnotherapy will help to allow you to accept this situation whereby you are quite clam and accepting that someone else is in control of the aircraft.
Number Of Sessions Required
Everyone is different, but you are normally looking at two or three sessions in total. If you are intending to fly soon, then a session will be tailored to you in order to help you though the process of taking that flight and being on board. In addition these sessions will be recorded. The audio files will then be emailed to you, so that you can listen to the recording at home, making the Hypnotherapy even more effective. For those intending to fly soon then these have the added benefit of being able to be listened to you prior to the flight.
